Environmental monitoring is easiest to understand when you see the systems behind the measurements.

These are selected projects I worked on across marine and environmental monitoring — what was being monitored, how the system worked, what I was responsible for, and what I learned from it.

Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) — Jebel Ali

Marine industrial-discharge monitoring from source to receiving environment.

Husam’s responsibilityTechnical monitoring-system responsibility within the delivered project scope; no claim of owning the facility programme or wider regulatory design.

Four stations: three offshore stations at approximately 300 m, 1 km and 2 km with paired surface/bottom sondes, plus one onshore seal-pit source station. Data reached the operations office and Dubai Municipality.

System, evidence and scope
Environment
Marine industrial discharge setting at Jebel Ali.
Monitoring objective
Observe the source and marine receiving environment and deliver the evidence to operational and municipal users.
Technical challenge
Maintaining a coherent source-to-receiving-environment measurement path across onshore and offshore stations.
Evidence / outcome
A functioning four-station evidence chain serving operations and Dubai Municipality.
Husam servicing an open offshore monitoring station from a boat
Offshore maintenance on the approximately 2,000 m monitoring station within the Jebel Ali marine discharge network.
